Research and education exceptions
When otherwise-prohibited content is allowed for research or education.
Content that would normally be prohibited (graphic imagery, extremist statements, descriptions of illegal acts) may be permitted when it is clearly framed for educational, journalistic, or research purposes — for example, a documentary journalist sharing footage of protest violence to inform the public.
The framing must be unambiguous. Context that makes the educational purpose clear (a caption, headline, or explicit statement of purpose) is required. Our team reviews these cases individually.
