Private vs. public account in depth

Public: Anyone can see your posts. Anyone can follow you without approval. Your posts appear in search and Discovery. Glow posts are indexed by search engines.

Private: Only approved followers see your posts. Non-followers see only your bio and follower count. Your posts are excluded from search and Discovery. Search engines cannot index your posts.

Switching to private does not remove your existing posts from followers who were already following you.
